The automated tracking of changes on competitor websites — pricing pages, product pages, hero copy, careers pages — over time.

Website change monitoring is the practice of automatically tracking changes on competitor websites and being alerted (or briefed) when meaningful changes occur. It's the workhorse signal for modern competitive intelligence.

Two tiers of tools exist:

  • Notification-only tools (Visualping, Distill, Wachete) — they detect a page changed and email you. Cheap ($13-25/mo). You interpret what the change means yourself.
  • Intelligence tools (Morthn Intel, Klue, Crayon) — they detect the change and also produce the strategic read, usually with AI synthesis. More expensive ($79-2,000/mo), more useful because the strategic context is included.
Website change monitoring catches signals that other CI methods miss entirely: pricing tier launches (no press release), homepage hero rewrites (no announcement), new product surfaces, new feature pages, hiring patterns visible on careers pages. These are typically the leading indicators of strategic moves — they happen before news coverage, before social posts, before sales conversations reveal them.

The realistic cadence for website change monitoring is weekly. Real-time alerting produces noise; quarterly checks miss too much. Weekly is the cadence that matches how often most B2B SaaS competitors actually ship meaningful site changes.

Example

A marketing team monitors 5 competitor sites weekly. Their Monday brief flags that one competitor changed their pricing page on Tuesday — adding a $49 tier and removing the $19 tier. By Wednesday, the team has decided their response and updates their own pricing page Friday. Without monitoring, they would have learned about the change 3-6 weeks later in a sales conversation, by which time the move had already affected their pipeline.
